  • VARIATOR, the same, that a progressive transmission.
  • VARIATIONS (from an armour. variatio - change) (theme and variations), a piece of music in which the theme is stated some times with changes in the pattern, chromaticities, melodies, harmonies, etc.; in ballet - small, but technically the composite solo classical dance, routinely a part of a pas de deux, a pas de trois, etc.
  • The ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE, section of mathematical statistics, studies properties of sets{combinations} of objects in which the parameter of a studied attribute variates (varies) from object to object.
  • CALCULUS OF VARIATIONS, the section of mathematics dedicated presence of the greatest and least values of variables, dependent on selection of one or several functions (such values call as functionals). To figure of problems of a calculus of variations concern, napr., isoperimetrical problems.
  • VARIATIONAL SERIES, sequence of values of the observed quantity located in ascending order. Napr., the variational series of values 1,-3, 0, 5, 3, 4 look like-3, 0, 1, 3, 4, 5.
  • VARIATION, 1) modification of secondary elements, detail something at conservation of that is the basis{fundamentals}. 2) Modification of the musical theme (see. Variations). 3) Technically complicated, masterly dance for the soloist or several dancers (routinely a part of a pas de deux, a pas de trois, etc. bands). 4) In mathematics - small offset independent variable or a functional.
  • VARICAP (from English vari (able) - variable and cap (acity) - container{capacity}), crystal rectifier in which property of p-n junction is used to variate the container{capacity} depending on the pressure{voltage;stress} (offset) enclosed in it{him}. It is applied predominary as the steered variable capacitor (routinely from units up to hundreds), napr. For set-up of high frequency oscillating circuits.
  • VARICOSE VARICOSE VEINS, disease of peripheric veins: their considerable expansion, lengthening{elongation}, a strain (education of crinkles and clusters). There is more often on veins of the lower extremities, a seed cord owing to inborn asthenia of a venous wall, loss of elasticity by her{it}, failures of the valving apparatus of veins.
  • VARIABLE CAPACITOR (from English vari (able) - variable and cond (enser) - the condenser), segnetokeramichesky the condenser with sharply expressed non-linear dependence of container{capacity} from the pressure{voltage;stress} enclosed in it{him}. Container{capacity} of a variable capacitor (nominal) from 10 pF up to 1 mkF with ratio of change 2-20. It is applied in devices of automatics and radio electronics.
  • WARING (Uering) (Waring) Edward (1734-1798), the English mathematician. Transactionses on algebra, number theories.
  • VARIGNON (Varignon) Pierre (1654-1722), French the mechanics and mathematician. Transactionses on theoretical mechanics, geometries, hydromechanics, etc. Has given a regular exposition of the doctrine about build and resolution of forces, about the moments of forces. Has introduced (1687) theorem called as his{its} name.
  • VARIGNON the THEOREM: the moment of resultant system of forces concerning any centre (or to a shaft) is peer to a sum moment of forces of this system concerning the same centre (shaft).
  • VARIOMETER (from an armour. vario - I variate and... Meter), 1) in radio engineering - the device for a smooth variation of inductance (mutual inductance), napr. For set-up of an oscillating circuit with the necessary frequency. 2) In geophysics - the device for definition of changes of any geophysical value, napr. Time histories of intensity of a geomagnetic field of the Earth, i.e. magnetic variations (a magnetic variometer), a field of gravity near to a surface of the Earth in a horizontal direction (a gravity variometer). Are applied at investigation of mineral wealths. 3) In aircraft - the flight device for definition of speed of an altitude change.
  • The VARISTOR (from English vari (able) - variable and (resi) stor - the resistor), the semiconductor resistor, which resistance variates at change of an applied voltage. It is used in frequency multipliers, modulators, devices of electroprotection and absorption of overstressings, etc.
  • VARISTSIJSKAJA the RIPPLE MARK (varisskaja a ripple mark), the same, that gertsinskaja a ripple mark.
  • VARKONI Zoltan (1912-79), the Hungarian actor, the producer. On the scene with 1935. With 1962 (Budapest) supervised over theatre " Âèãñèíõàç ". Has delivered films: " the Salt pile " (1957), " Hungarian nabob " (1966), " Black diamonds " (1976).
  • VARLAAM (ok. 1590-1657), the founder of book printing in Moldova (book "Kazanija", 1643, etc.), metropolitan. The champion of enlightenment and friendship with Russia. One of osnovatelej Slavjano-Greco-Latin academy (1640) in JAssah.
  • VARLAAM (mind{wit}. 1350), the outlet box from Calabria, moved to Byzantium. Main opponent Grigory Palamy and afonskih isihastov in doctrinal dispute about nature Favorskogo of light (spores varlaamitov and palamitov). It is convicted on a church cathedral 1341, has returned to Italy where has become roman catholic diocesan; learned{taught} the Grecian tongue Petrarca.
  • VARLAAM Indian (4 century), under the legend, the presbyter in India, baptizing Ioasafa; a hermit. Memory{remembrance} in the Orthodox church on November, 19 (on December, 2), in Roman catholic - on November, 27.
